Cyber threats continue to plague businesses, including lawyers and law firms.  In 2018, we’re continuing to see cyber threats involving:

W-2 Fraud
Fraudulent wiring instructions
Ransomware
Payroll diversion
Tax scams

A recent publication by Beazley reports that 36% of cyber- attacks involved a hack or malware, while 28% were from accidental disclosure and 7% arose from a portable device.  Beazley 2018 Breach Briefing provides detailed analysis of cyber attacks and examples of what you can do to protect your firm.

Tax scams are also rampant this time of year.  The IRS has issued a  Tax Scams/ Consumer Alert and How to know it’s really the IRS calling or knocking on your door.  These offer good tips to follow.
